Trauma Support
Information and simple coping skills to help you navigate the effects of trauma.
Trauma is an emotional response to a distressing event. It can have long-lasting effects on your well-being. It's not a sign of weakness, but a normal reaction to an abnormal situation.
When you feel overwhelmed, grounding can help. Try the 5-4-3-2-1 method: name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste.
Flashbacks can be frightening. Remind yourself that you are safe now. Hold onto a comforting object, speak a kind phrase to yourself, or describe your current surroundings out loud to root yourself in the present.
Be kind to yourself. Healing is not linear, and it's okay to have bad days. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a friend. Your feelings are valid.
These tips are not a substitute for professional mental health support. A trauma-informed therapist can provide you with tailored strategies for healing.
